About United Utilities
As Official Community Partner to Liverpool, European Capital of Culture 2008, United Utilities believes this award will benefit the economy and image of Liverpool and the region.
As a national business it feels it has a duty to make a positive contribution to its communities. It will work on diverse and creative projects, which will make 2008 an inclusive and memorable event for the entire region.
Our partnership with Liverpool 08 is a natural continuation of our long-standing support to the region. Our investment in wastewater has transformed the Mersey into something the city can be proud of once more - a focal point for its celebrations. Over the next five years the company is investing more than £3.2billion to improve the region's rivers, beaches and drinking water.
As part of our community partnership we will be giving away 2008 tickets to events happening in Merseyside. These tickets will be made available to community groups and individuals via our community heroes' initiative and competitions. Our aim is to help make the celebrations accessible and affordable to everyone. The main part of our investment is our support of the Liverpool Culture Company's Creative Communities team.
As a major employer we are encouraging all of our staff to become involved in cultural activities and we are proud that so many employees, from across all of our businesses, have already come together to volunteer.
Our sponsorship will help realise one of the primary aims of the Culture Company - to make this "the best-ever European Capital of Culture."
